Importation Options
Rebate Option: This is available for qualifying civil servants (government employees) who meet specific criteria. It provides a reduction in total landing costs.
Duty Option: For individuals who are not eligible for duty-free privileges, this option includes the full customs duty payable to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) as part of the total landing cost.

How It Works
- Go to the Beforward website (www.beforward.jp) and select your preferred port.
- Provide me with the reference number of the vehicle to receive a discounted rate.
- Make a 50% deposit to start the shipping process.
- Pay the remaining balance 17 days prior to the car’s arrival at your selected port.
Key Information
- Vehicles from Japan typically take about 6-8 weeks to reach the port.
- For civil servants and those applying for disability rebates, the duty-free process begins after a 50% deposit is made.
Duty-Free Rebates for Civil Servants: Application Steps
- After purchasing the vehicle, obtain an invoice/Proforma invoice and Bill of Lading.
- Submit an application letter to the appropriate Ministry, including:
- Driver’s licence
- invoice (s) of
purchased vehicle (s) - payslip
- proof of residence
3 .The respective Ministry will vet the applicant and if successful ,issue a recommendation letter to the public service commission
- The public service commission will also review the papers and if successful issue a recommendation to the Ministry of finance and economic development
- Upon success the Ministry of finance and economic development issues a letter authorizing the applicant to import under rebate and copies the commissioner of the Zimbabwe revenue authority (ZIMRA)
- The applicant contacts the local ZIMRA office near their residence or workplace to submit a rebate application ( which can also be done via email).
- ZIMRA issues a rebate letter that the applicant produces to the clearing border
